The Freyr tactical axe, designed by Elmer Roush, a veteran designer from Brasstown, North Carolina, embodies a Norse design with an American soul. Rather than tinkering with a time-tested axe shape that has endured for over a millennium, Roush has crafted an exceptional modern workhorse. The deep beard of the Freyr echoes the Viking style, but its exceptional balance and sheer power propel it into a league of its own, leaving the shield and battle cry behind.

Though the Freyr's prominent beard may not be used to fend off enemy shields as in the Viking sagas of old, the balance it provides elevates this axe to a contemporary standard. Named after the Norse god of prosperity, the Freyr's Viking essence is evident in its classic appearance. The blade itself is hot-forged from carbon steel and treated with a passivation process for unparalleled corrosion resistance. Paired with a handle carved from Tennessee hickory, the Freyr is meticulously crafted for durability and ease of use. An optional leather sheath is available for purchase.

The Forged By War program, launched by CRKT in 2016, aims to honor the contributions of combat veterans by collaborating with them to design and forge mission-ready tools. Elmer Roush, the designer of the Freyr, has selected the Green Beret Foundation as the beneficiary of his tool's proceeds. While the temptation to throw this axe may be strong, CRKT advises against it due to safety concerns and the potential voiding of the limited lifetime warranty.
